About Project

What is it about?

United Nations Agency for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN WOMEN) is conducting the ``Key steps toward gender equality in Serbia`` which is financed by the European Commission. The project supports the Government of the Republic of Serbia in the efficient implementation of EU values in the area of gender equality and the National Strategy for Gender Equality 2016-2020. The project provides support to Civil Society organizations which contribute to the National Action Plan for Gender Equality 2016-2018 by specific activities. UN WOMEN in Serbia is implementing this program in partnership with the Coordinating body for gender equality, the Ministry for European Integrations, the EU Delegation in Serbia and other partner institutions which deal with gender equality. 

The basic goal is the improvement of the position of women and support to local communities and the fulfillment of their obligations regarding gender equality.

On the road to gender equality:

• We will provide support to the Coordinating body for gender equality which is implementing the National Action Plan for gender equality and tries to implement legal values of the EU in the area of gender equality. The measures for economic strengthening of women will be implemented by the support from the National Action plan in three areas: women at the job market; women entrepreneurs; women in rural areas. This will be accomplished by providing grants to the organizations and civil society networks which deal with gender equality and empowering women.
• We will give support to the Ministry for European Integrations to establish internal procedures for introducing gender aspects, so that gender equality can be integrated into the relevant program documents and the priorities in the area of gender equality identified for future actions.
